1. We are no longer allowed to charge for the cost of accepting them – usually around 2%.
2. There is an increased amount of fraud, particularly around charge-backs.
At Whyte’s we allow credit card payments of up to €500 (£425) to accommodate those of limited budget.
I would advise David and other collectors to talk to the auction house before bidding. Many, including ourselves, are flexible and can accommodate requests for extended credit or to take the card payment from a trusted client.
