Carriage and equestrian specialist Thimbleby & Shorland of Reading will offer the collection of Frank and Jane Warrender, who together compiled a large and comprehensive group of carriages and associated sundries.

The 323-lot sale will take place on site, near Horsham, West Sussex, on May 15. It will be led by this ‘Park Drag’ coach, built in 1865 by London maker Laurie & Marner. Park Drags were the Rolls-Royce of their era, built for gentlemen who wished to drive for pleasure.

Used for competition and repainted twice in the 50 years since it purchased in 1971, it is finished in dark navy and black livery with yellow lines and bears the family motif of a rearing lamb and gold ring mounted on the waist boards. It is estimated at £60,000-80,000.
