A collection of medals relating to the Yeomen of The Guard will be offered in a two-day sale of orders, decorations, medals and militaria at London saleroom Dix Noonan Webb on May 8-9.
The group was assembled by Lieutenant-Colonel Paul William Denny (1940-2018) in 1990, just after he was appointed a Yeoman of the Guard himself. He continued collecting until his death last year.
Highlights of the 38-lot group include a Crimean War DCM group of four awarded to Sergeant-Major John Breeze, 11th Hussars and Yeoman of the Guard, who lost his arm at the battle of Inkerman. It comes with photographs of the recipient in his Yeoman of the Guard uniform. Estimate £4000-5000.

Six Impressionist landscapes by LS Lowry’s tutor, Pierre Adolphe Valette (1876-1942), will be hitting the auction block in an Art & Design sale at Cambridge saleroom Cheffins on May 9.
The group was purchased from The Tib Lane Gallery in Manchester in 1970 and includes views of Grasmere, Anglesey, Pravins and Palma. The highest-estimated work at £2000-3000 is a 14 x 19in (37 x 49cm) oil on board landscape depicting Valldemossa on the island of Majorca. Lowry called Valette “a real teacher… a dedicated teacher”.

More than 200 lots of modern and contemporary ceramics, from influential 20th century masters Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada to contemporary potters Jennifer Lee and Glenys Barton, will be for sale at specialist auction house Maak in London. The online sale concludes on May 2.

The 7in (17.5cm) high earthenware piece comes from a private collection in Herefordshire and features a cream slip with carved chrysanthemum patterns beneath an amber glaze with vivid green ‘sansai’ style splashes.
A collection of 18th century family portraits and pictures from Penrose House, a National Trust property in Porthleven in Cornwall, will go under the hammer at Penzance saleroom David Lay on May 2.
Included in the 39-lot group is a 13 x 23in (34 x 58cm) oil on board of two Penrose trout by the French-born British artist Sophie Anderson (1823-1903). The picture is inscribed to the back with the date October 1895 and includes the name of Captain Peverell Rogers, a former owner of Penrose House.
Anderson painted mainly historical subjects and portraits, which are characterised by their detailed and highly finished technique.
Estimate £1500-2500.
