Asia Week New York, the Big Apple’s annual spring fest of dealer shows by Asian art specialists from around the world and a selection of dedicated Asian art auctions, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
This year 48 international galleries, the usual mix of resident and visitor dealers, will be participating along with half-a-dozen auction firms and 16 different cultural institutions.
Diverse array
Dealers’ selling shows and auctions, institutional exhibitions and lectures covering Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian and Himalayan material offer the visitor a diverse array of works of all ages and price points and a wealth of material to see across Manhattan during the event’s 10-day run from March 13-23.
Auction house participants are Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Bonhams, Doyle, iGavel and, participating for the first time, Heritage Auctions.
The first three all have multi-sale series: eight at Sotheby’s (from March 18-23) nine at Christie’s (March 19-26) and four at Bonhams (March 18-20).
Doyle and Heritage have single sales on March 18 and 19 resepctively and iGavel is holding an online auction from March 26-April 16.
Other salerooms time their own Asian auctions to coincide with the transatlantic influx to Manhattan, such as Freeman’s on March 12-13 in Philadelphia and Skinner in Boston on March 22.
