A cabinet by the influential Italian artist and designer Carlo Bugatti (1856-1940) forms part of a private collection of Art Nouveau and Art Deco works consigned to a decorative arts auction at Roseberys in West Norwood on June 25.
The 3ft 2in x 17in (96 x 44cm) walnut, ebonised wood, pewter and brass inlaid and hammered brass cabinet dates to c.1900 – a high point in Bugatti’s career when his furniture designs were proving popular at European exhibitions.
This piece carries hopes of £8000-12,000.

A Suffragette hunger strike medal presented to Elsie Wolff Van Sandau on March 4, 1912, is for sale at Derbyshire saleroom Hansons on June 27 estimated at £7000-10,000.
Sandau was arrested after allegedly smashing a window in London’s Covent Garden during an organised campaign. Her medal is housed in its original case which states: Presented to Elsie Wolff Van Sandau. By the Women’s Social & Political Union in recognition of a gallant action whereby through endurance to the last extremity of hunger and hardship great principle of political justice was vindicated.
Hansons says it was discovered in a bureau drawer in a house in East Sheen, south-west London.
North Yorkshire saleroom Tennants will include this wintery work by northern mining artist Norman Cornish (1919-2014) in a Modern & Contemporary Art sale on June 22.
Street Scene with Tanky Engine, a signed 2ft x 2ft 11in (62 x 90cm) oil on board, depicts children playing in the snow in Bishops’ Close Street, Spennymoor – the street in which Cornish grew up and started married life.
Estimated at £10,000-15,000, the painting comes with provenance from the artist’s family.
