A Scottish silver tumbler cup from the reign of Charles II is expected to be one of the star lots at Cheffins’ Jewellery, Silver & Watches Sale in Cambridge on August 1.
It bears an assay mark for Banff in Aberdeenshire and was made c.1680 by William Scott the Elder, the first recorded silversmith in Banff. The town had one of the smallest assay offices with the result that only a limited number of items were ever marked there.
Estimate £6000-8000.

This Venetian scene by Czech-born artist Antonietta Brandeis (1848-1926) will go under the hammer in the three-day Fine Sale art at Norfolk saleroom Keys on July 24-26.
The 8 x 14in (21 x 36cm) oil on board, Venetian Boats, has an estimate of £7000-10,000
Brandeis perfected her skills as a landscape painter at the Venetian Academy of Fine Arts in the 1860s, becoming one of the first women to receive academic instruction in the fine arts in Italy. Many of her pictures depict Venetian scenes, intricately painted in the tradition of the 18th century ‘vedutisti’.
