1 Tell us about your recent publication.
The Art of Doris Hatt is the first monograph about the inspirational Somerset Modernist who was one of the very few British artists to fully engage with the aesthetic and political ideas expressed by Fernand Léger. She was also a committed communist, feminist and social activist throughout her life.
There are always exciting opportunities for commercial galleries to re-assess artists who have been forgotten or unfairly overlooked. This valuable research is more often than not left to dealers rather than the public museums and galleries, which tend to concentrate on the already famous.
2 What is a highlight you have on offer this summer?
Stanley Spencer’s large drawing Going to Bed from 1935, a touchingly nostalgic memory drawing recalling happy times with his first wife Hilda and his young daughters Unity and Shirin.

3 Whose star is on the rise in the art world?
The contemporary English painter Des Lawrence is certainly one to watch.
4 What is the exhibition not to miss this year?
It was wonderful to see Harold Gilman: Beyond Camden Town at Pallant House. I’m also very much looking forward to the Tristram Hillier show at the Museum of Somerset opening in November this year.
