It has added a saleroom at Versailles to its existing sites in Fontainebleau and central Paris. This is the result of a merger with Eric Pillon Enchères of the Hôtel des Ventes du Château in Versailles.
The new branch will be opening its doors on September 1. Pillon will continue to work with Osenat focusing on sales of Modern art, which is his particular speciality. The Versailles branch will be run by David Gelly.
Osenat is creating several new departments at its Versailles rooms. One embraces works with royal associations: La Royauté à Versailles – Souvenirs Historiques. Another, Grand Siècle, will be devoted to traditional 18th century furniture and works of art.
For founder Jean-Pierre Osenat, the osmosis between objects and place is key. Having already established a reputation for sales of Napoleonic-era works and souvenirs at his Fontainebleau rooms under the Empire à Fontainebleau banner, he feels categories embracing the earlier era of “Louis XIV and XV, marquetry, gilt bronze and tapestries” are particularly associated with Versailles.
The firm will also be opening a Russian department holding three sales per year in Versailles devoted to all periods of Russian art, under the expertise of Ekaterina Nikoleava-Tendil assisted by Mariia Vikhrova.
