Het Zand Festival
Held on three Sundays in July, August and September in Bruges, with the next on Sunday, August 4, is the huge Zandfeesten. This fleamarket extravaganza covers five miles of the city centre including Het Zand Square and Koning Albertpark. It is a 12- hour marathon, kicking off early at 6am with a finish time of 6pm.
Ciney Puces & Antiquités fair
Run triannually for 30 years in the small Belgian city of Ciney, 50 miles from Brussels, is the Ciney Puces & Antiquités fair which takes place at the Ciney Expo building. The summer event runs from Friday to Sunday, July 19-21.
Marie Gilissen at Ciney Expo said: “In terms of exhibitors we have more than 500 this July, including from Belgium, France, Holland and Italy as well as a large number from Germany, plus around 30 expected from the UK.”
She added: “There’s an increasing attendance from Russian brocanteurs which will add something potentially new and interesting to the mix of artefacts and objects.
“Mid-century furniture is super fashionable at the moment, especially with our European buyers, while silver and bronze objects are also expected to be on the shopping list, sought after by an increasing number of Middle Eastern and Asian clients who travel over especially for the event.”
Brocante Temploux

Once a year the small village of Temploux, near Tournai, holds its annual brocante. This runs for 36 hours throughout the village over the weekend of August 24-25 this year, from 7am on the Saturday through to 6pm on Sunday, which sounds like a good party especially with a fireworks display as the finale.
The Saturday brocante is aimed at the trade with the fleamarket running from Saturday evening till Sunday night.
