1. This painting by David Bates (1840-1921) was created when the artist was still a porcelain painter at Royal Worcester. He left employment there in 1880 to become a full-time professional painter. The 11½ x 17in (29 x 44cm) oil on canvas, On the Wye, tipped over top estimate at Shrewsbury saleroom Halls on February 6.
2. The Northumberland-born, self-taught painter Stanley Todd (1923-2004) was influenced by Archibald Thorburn (1860-1935). This 10 x 14in (25 x 35cm) example of a grouse in flight, dated 1973 and with a gallery label for John Moncrieff MacMillan in Perth, nearly doubled its top guide at Keys of Aylsham on February 8.
3. Mill-worker-turned-artist Orlando Greenwood (1892-1989) achieved renown for his pictures in the 1920s. This 18 x 22in (46 x 56cm) mixed media on canvas found a buyer at Cheffins of Cambridge on February 7, estimated at £600-800.
