For people wanting to spend a weekend or longer in the city, which marked the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall in November, vintage markets are an integral part of Berlin life. Here are four examples. Check the websites before visiting as dates and times can change.
1 The popular Juni fleamarket runs every Saturday and Sunday in the Charlottenburg district on the edge of the Tiergarten Park in central Berlin . One of the city’s oldest, largest and most visited antiques and vintage markets, it offers porcelain, silver, small furniture, glass and paintings as well as contemporary design pieces.
2 The Sunday Mauerpark fleamarket is big. It offers 500 stands spread over nearly two acres and is one of Berlin’s most popular tourist destinations attracting nearly a million visitors a year. A year-long party atmosphere with music and performing artists adds to the fun.
3 Every Sunday morning in the Berlin-Mitte area an antiques and book market runs along the banks of the River Spree which flows through the city. With the backdrop of the Bode Museum, one of a group of museums on the World Heritage site of Museum Island, the market offers books, silver, glass, ephemera, vintage advertising signs and plenty more pickings.

4 By contrast, the fleamarket in Boxhagener Platz, in the heart of the buzzing student quarter in Berlin’s Simon- Dach-Strasse, is a small, quiet affair. Collectors and fleamarket obsessives can trawl through books, vinyl, paintings, kitchenalia and lamps with plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby to relax in later.
