A study of a tree by Charles Sillem Lidderdale (1831-95), shown top, is among the works at the Harry Moore-Gwyn Fine Art exhibition From the Artist’s Studio this month.
Sketches, working studies and other pictures by British artists are offered from £100-1500 and are available online or at the St James’s gallery by appointment from December 16-20.
Lidderdale’s paintings often depicted women in outdoor settings. This study is offered for £850.
Thoughts of summer
Oils and watercolours from the 18th-20th century are available to buy at The Canon Gallery Christmas show. Among the works is the landscape Summer, the Head of the Glen by Henry Clarence Whaite (1828-1912), offered for £4200. More works are available online and some at John Beazor Antiques in Cambridge.
Timely nativity scene
In Wales, Martin Tinney Gallery holds a changing exhibition including works by all its gallery artists which are replaced as soon as they are sold. Prices range from £50-20,000 and artists include Ceri Richards, Kyffin Williams and Rosemary Burton.
Among the works are several wood engravings by British artist David Jones (1895-1974) such as Nativity with Ox and Ass (1923), which is available for £395. The show runs until December 24.
High and mighty
The Maas Gallery in Mayfair, London, holds an exhibition of Victorian & Pre-Raphaelite Engravings, including more than 100 prints available online and in the gallery.
Running until December 20, it includes a mixed method engraving of Edwin Landseer’s (1802-73) Monarch of the Glen published in 1893 by Leggatt Brothers. It is available for £1800.
Like a duck to water
The White Drake (1922), a watercolour by William Hanna Clarke (1882-1924), is offered for £2200 in an exhibition of Scottish painting from 1650-1950 at The Fine Art Society Edinburgh. Running until December 23, it coincides with two other shows at the gallery: one on the design duo Timorous Beasties and other titled The Arrangement of Skin featuring the work of Contemporary artist Fiona Dean.
Festive watercolour
Browse & Darby in Mayfair, London, offers Christmas Tree, a watercolour by Leonard Rosoman (1913-2012), for £4000. Its Christmas show runs until December 20 and features a selection of British and French 19th and 20th century paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture as well as Contemporary art.
