While many were by well-known artists of the oeuvre, the top-seller was an unattributed lithograph, proclaiming Newquay, Cornwall’s Finest Atlantic Resort. The 4ft (1.23m) high poster was marked No. 21 G.W.R Paddington Station, London W2, printed by The Dangerfield Printing Co. Ltd. London.

Against an £800-1200 estimate, it sold to a collector for £2800 at the October 31 sale.

Also going way above expectations was a coloured lithograph poster from the 1937 Outposts of Britain series by Edward McKnight Kauffer (1890-1954).

The work measuring 4ft 2in (1.26m) high and titled Posting Box at Lands End was pitched at £500-800 but sold at £2500.
