The sale at Hyperion Auctions of St Ives, Cambridgeshire, on August 24 includes a large group of sporting memorabilia

This signed postcard above depicts Iwao Aoki, the first Japanese tennis player to play at the Wimbledon Championship (from 1931-34). It is accompanied by a handwritten letter from Aoki to Harold Cantor (of the furniture store family) who had requested the photo.

RW Mylne’s Geological Map of London and its Environs published by Edward Stanford of London in 1858, identifies the varying surface soils of the capital and its environs.

The 16in x 2ft 2in (41 x 67cm) geological cross section runs from Hendon to East Wickham. This scarce early edition above, mounted on linen, folding with marbled ends into gilt cloth boards, carries an estimate of £300-500 at Forum Auctions of London on August 29.

This unusual find above, an early-20th century clockwork tinplate 4-4-2 locomotive and tender made to run on the floor rather than on a track carries an estimate of £425-475 at Watsons of Heathfield, East Sussex, on August 22.

Surviving in unusually good condition, the 13½in (34cm) German toy is decked out in the lined green livery of the No 902 Highland Chief of the North British Railway.

On August 31, Keys of Aylsham, Norfolk, will sell the principal contents of a flat in Hampstead, north London.

It includes a collection of studio ceramics and modern art mainly purchased in the 1970s from the Peter Dingley Gallery in Stratford-upon-Avon.

One of the lots with a Dingley provenance is this large studio pottery baluster vase with Ten Moku glaze by Ray Finch (1914-2012).

The 15in (38cm) high, vase is estimated at £80-100.
