Buffalo Bill annual No 13 from 1961 is estimated at £650-850 in Comic Book Auctions' timed online sale ending on September 1.
Buffalo Bill Wild West annuals gained huge popularity in the 1950s. Their covers and interior artwork were designed and painted by Denis McLoughlin (1918-2002) while his brother, Colin, created the characters and wrote many of the stories.
Comic Book Auctions is offering McLaughlin’s original artwork for annual No 13 from 1961, the last of the series by publisher Dean and Son. The gouache and collage rendition illustrated here shows the artist at the height of his powers. Enigmatically, McLoughlin used his own facial image for the outnumbered cowboy on the cover.
The artwork is offered with an estimate of £650-850 in a timed online auction ending on September 1.
