Des Gallagher and Garth Arnold will launch the Belfast Titantic Antiques & Fine Art Fair on Sunday, December 8.

The commercial angle is appealing: the venue is the Titanic Hotel (above), the building where draftsmen designed HMS Titanic in the early 1900s and a stone’s throw from the Titanic Belfast museum, into which up to 3000 visitors stream on a Sunday. On the day of the fair, two cruise liners laden with tourists will have docked nearby.

A novel element is an hour-long auction to be held mid-fair.

“We’re not fair organisers but we feel something needs to be done for Belfast,” Gallagher tells ATG. Stands will be priced competitively – a 6ft table costing £40 inc VAT, to include dealer parking. “It’s early days and we won’t make any money on it, but the aim is to get a quality, vetted fair up and running,” Gallagher says.
