A collection of Victorian medals relating to the Crimean War will go under the hammer at Charterhouse Auctions of Sherborne on September 21.

They feature the young head of Queen Victoria mounted on a light blue ribbon, with oak leaf bars commemorating the battles of Alma, Sebastopol, Inkerman and Balaclava fought between 1854-55.

The collection was amassed by a grandfather and grandson over several years and is guided at £5000-7000.

A sale of 20th century decorative arts at Roseberys in West Norwood, London, will include this Art Nouveau Amphora vase of a maiden with flowers in her hair by the Austrian Czech porcelain factory Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel.

The 10in (25.5 cm) high vase was painted by Nikolaus Kannhauser in c.1895-1905 and is inscribed Odilo – a signature that appears on just one other known vase.

It also bears a printed red RStK mark and is impressed Amphora 468.

Estimate £4000-6000.

Following the coronation of Queen Elizabeth in June 1953, Edward Seago (1910-74), the official artist for the occasion, hung around London painting in the weeks that followed.

This bustling oil on canvas, showing Piccadilly and the Ritz Hotel hung with coronation decorations, is one such work.

It has been consigned by a local vendor to Lawrences of Crewkerne’s October 12 sale in Somerset and is guided at £20,000-30,000.
