Dreweatts‘ picture specialist Lucy Gregory and property auctioneer Nick Maddocks at Gibbins Richards were joint runners-up in the competition. It was judged by Dreweatts consultant Richard Madley, property auctioneer Clive Emson and David Sandeman, managing director of online property auction group Essential Information Group.

The pair were beaten by winner Debs Latham from property specialists SDL Auctions.

Buzzard challenge

Gregory, who has worked at Dreweatts since 2016, previously worked for Bonhams. She was joined by other chattels auctioneers Arlene Blankers of Christie’s, Brettells’ Gemima Brettell and Chiswick Auctions’ Jim Peake in the competition.

Contestants auctioned off an array of lots including a taxidermy buzzard, a disused water tower with expired planning permission and a shovel, with estimates ranging from £100-180,000.

The finalists were then asked to take to the rostrum for a final round after dinner at the Autumn Forum conference held at the Cambridge Belfry this year.

The annual event was co-sponsored by four companies including ATG parent Auction Technology Group.
