The KB Discomatic portable jukebox rose to prominence in 1965 when John Lennon purchased one and stocked it with 40 singles to be used on tour. It became known as ‘John Lennon’s jukebox’ thereafter.
An identical example is estimated at £300-500 in a sale of music memorabilia at Bishop & Miller on November 10 in Stowmarket, Suffolk.
East Sussex auction housePippa Deeley will offer a small 3in (8.5cm) wide Japanese silver lidded pot in its sale in Robertsbridge on November 3.
It is stamped with a maker’s mark for Asahi Shoten, a shop that first opened its doors in a district in Yokohama in the 1890s. It bears two inscriptions: Phyllis to the lid and the letter J to the concave interior.
Estimate £60-80.
Asketch of a woman in a hat by the famous society portraitist Gerald Brockhurst (1890-1978) will go under the hammer in Oxfordshire at Swan Fine Art in Tetsworth on November 1.
The 12½ x 18in (32 x 45cm) pencil drawing is signed and estimated at £300-500.
An early 19th century brooch with a painted eye to the centre is guided at £200-400 in the November 15-16 sale at Charterhouse in Sherborne.
Eye miniatures or ‘Lovers’ eyes’ are believed to have originated with George IV when as Prince of Wales he wanted to send his companion Maria Fitzherbert a token of his love.
This gesture and the romance that went with it was frowned upon by the court, so a miniaturist was employed to paint only the eye and thereby preserve anonymity and decorum.
