However, a chance to bid for an item at ‘more affordable’ levels from the collection is coming up at Windsor, Connecticut, saleroom Nadeau’s Auction Gallery on June 2.

Ed Nadeau from the firm said: “Many of the Rockefellers’ higher-end pieces were recently sold at the series of auctions through Christie’s, but in this sale a variety of items will be selling for between $50 and $20,000.”

Among the 635 lots is this watercolour painting above by Anglo-French painter Paul Lucien Maze (1887-1979), titled Coronation for Abby 1953, acquired by the Rockefellers as a gift directly from the artist in 1957. ‘Abby’ is the nickname for Abigail Aldrich Rockefeller (David’s sister).

The 2ft ½in x 2ft 9in (61 x 84cm) work is estimated at $1000-2000.
