Hayter moved to Paris in the 1920s, where he worked in printmaking as an original creative process.

During his life in France and, for a time, New York, artists such as Picasso, Giacometti, Rothko and de Kooning were drawn to his workshop. His works, which became increasingly abstract, reflected an interest in the natural world.

The works at Crane Kalman’s show, at the Knightsbridge gallery from May 9-June 9, have been consigned directly from the Parisian apartment of the painter’s heirs.

Prices range from £20,000-300,000.
