Content includes the USGA by-laws, instructions for laying out a course, a list of clubs, hints on play and a section devoted to competition results.
The earliest recorded American golf book is J Stuart Balfour’s Golf, published by the Spalding Athletic Library in 1893. The only auction appearance of that work I could trace came in 1998, when a copy in the superb Murdoch golf library made $2500 at PBA.
