A friend of Salvador Dali, Casamor was a leading exponent of ‘noucentisme’, the Catalan cultural movement that flourished in the early part of the 20th century as a reaction against Modernism.

Now, a collection of art and sculpture kept at his villa in nearby Navata is being sold in a dedicated sale at Bonhams New Bond Street on April 11 in London. The 220-plus lot auction majors on devotional sculpture dating from the 12th century to modern day, as well as Old Master Italian and Spanish paintings.

Since Casamor’s death 38 years ago, the contents have been looked after by the Casamor family. The funds raised from its sale will go towards The Casamor Foundation and a new home in Costa Brava to exhibit the sculptor’s life works.

Among the lots by Casamor himself is this pair of bronze maquettes of the figures of Saint Joseph and Saint James for the Girona Cathedral commission. The 9½in (25cm) high pieces, mounted on marble plinth bases, are estimated at £500-700.
