After his career in the Royal Navy ended, John converted his passion for watercolours into a business – J Morton Lee Fine Watercolours. He will be remembered for his tireless energy in exhibiting at antiques fairs in the UK and abroad, with his wife Paddy, right up to the age of 82.

It could be said that he had antiques in his blood: his father Mo, uncle Ronald and cousin Charlie were all presidents of the BADA. His favourite marine watercolourist was TB Hardy, about whom he wrote a well-illustrated book.

John was always charming and diplomatic, even to the nurses attending him in his final days in hospital.

A thanksgiving service will be held at St Mary’s Church, Hayling Island, on April 3 at 11.30. The family hope that business friends and clients will be able to attend.
