These events first launched in 2003 at Dulwich College in south London.
Fifteen years on, and talking about this powerful sector of the market and in advance of the forthcoming show at the college, Ryder Richardson adds: “Curators visit our shows often – even our small Midcentury Modern pop-up at the Hepworth Gallery in Yorkshire last month had Manchester Art Gallery curators bagging a couple of Louis Poulsen lights for their upcoming Nordic art and design show later this year.”
Louis Poulsen is a Danish lighting manufacturer founded in 1874 in Copenhagen. One of the company’s best-known designers was Poul Henningsen, whose signature design was the PH-lamp series, with the PH5 being launched in 1958 and still in production today.
Ryder Richardson says: “We are currently sourcing pieces for a client who works in the financial sector and estate agents like The Modern House now want us to style houses with our take on mid-century and modern.
“You just have to take a trip around any design show to see how little has changed since the mid-century as we look back and find comfort from those post-war years that bred some genius designer-makers.”
The Midcentury Modern Show at Dulwich College on Sunday, March 18, will have 80 dealers in mid-century as well as 25 contemporary designers.
