Among the best established is the so-called Wilton Rotary Mammoth Car Boot Sale, held for the past 35 years on the estate at Wilton House, near Salisbury, seat of the Earls of Pembroke.

Rotary Club member Andy Rhind-Tutt regularly sees 1000 car boots and around 5000-plus visitors packed into the five hours of the boot, which runs from 9am-2pm. He hopes around £15,000 will be raised for the local Rotary Club. Held on August Bank Holiday Monday (August 27), this is a car boot marathon.

An annual car boot runs in the grounds of Sledmere House, Driffield, in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and assorted local charities. This year’s event on Sunday, July 8, expects around 3500 visitors and more than 100 car boots and tables and aims to raise around £7000 for the chosen charities.

A newcomer to the country house car boots scene was to have been a September event at Chillington Hall, near Wolverhampton. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the hall’s events coordinator Rachelle Weir advises this has had to be postponed and will be rescheduled for 2019.
