1. Contemporary Scottish artist James Fullarton (b.1946) specialises in painting landscapes and still-lives in the west of Scotland. This small signed 8 x 10in (20 x 25cm) acrylic on board, The Picnic Lunch, sold on top estimate at McTear’s of Glasgow.

2. With the character of an Old Master painting, this 12 x 16in (30 x 40cm) oil on canvas by Herbert Johnson Harvey (1884-1928) called A Story of Bygone Days sold within estimate at Bristol Auction Rooms on May 24. Although his work was exhibited at the Royal Academy and throughout England, not much is known about Harvey.

3. Flowers and the landscape of his native Northamptonshire dominate Peter Newcombe’s (b.1943) oeuvre. This 20 x 14in (51 x 36cm) tulips and apple blossom oil on board from 2012 sold for nearly triple its top guide at Burstow & Hewett in East Sussex on May 24.
