No such problems with a pair of the firm’s armchairs offered at Bristol Auction Rooms (20% buyer’s premium) on April 25.

With classic splay seats and roll arms, the 2ft 10in (88cm) wide chairs were stamped to the backlegs and brass casters Howard & Sons, London. Against a £2000-3000 estimate, they sold at £13,000 to a private buyer bidding against phone and online rivals.
