This gold medal above was awarded to a crew member of the RMS Carpathia, the Cunard Line transatlantic passenger steamship famous for its rescue of Titanic survivors in 1912.

The 14k yellow gold Carpathia Medal was presented to Ernest GF Brown in recognition of his ‘outstanding contribution’ to the survivors. Only 14 medals in gold were awarded by the Titanic Survivors Committee to the captain and senior officers of the Carpathia, while silver and bronze medals were awarded to the junior officers and crew.

The medal is estimated at £18,000-25,000 in an Antiques & Collectors sale at Bourne End Auction Rooms on August 1.
