But the stand-out lots at the At Home sale in Dublin on June 17 were two pieces from Russia.

The 2½in (6.5cm) vari-gold and guilloche enamel parasol handle, set with brilliant-cut diamonds and classical swags bore the 56 zlotnik mark and, more importantly, was stamped Fabergé and struck with the workmaster’s initials MN for Mikhail Perkhin (1860-1903). Estimated at €500-700, it sold at €2200 (£1925).

Lacking any such prestigious marks but a quality piece of Russian craftsmanship, the gold-mounted nephrite letter opener, above, was pitched at €1500-2500.

Offered in an 11½in (29cm) fitted case, it sold at €3800 (£3325).
