In 1978, Omega recertified its famous Speedmaster for NASA’s emerging Space Shuttle programme, submitting three different watches for certification.
The Speedmaster Professional was chosen and certified in 1978 to be used by astronauts for all manned space flights.
Dating from the period is a gentleman’s stainless steel Speedmaster Professional watch, reference number 145.022 78, which is estimated at £2000-3000 in Woolley & Wallis’ jewellery and watches sale in Salisbury on July 19.
