ATG responds: The recent consultation concerned only Indian and African elephant ivory.

Items of marine ivory and the other species mentioned will not be part of any ban but may be subject to other forms of CITES protection.

Controversially, in some states in the US additional types of ivory – including that of the long-extinct mammoth – are prohibited because of the perceived difficulties of determining between species.
