Leading the way on December 13 was a lot comprising a 1943 RAF Observer Corps electric sector clock and a 1940 Synchronome Electric Master Clock.
Colour-coded sector clocks helped the observers – a body whose contribution to the war in the air is often overlooked – to relay information to central command. They were introduced in 1917 and are today sought-after by aeronautica collectors.
This one, together with the master clock, above, was estimated at £3000- 4000 and sold to a collector at £5500.
Wartime naval binoculars are always a target for collectors and other bidders who simply want top-quality items to use.
At Leyburn, a pair of 1944 bridge binoculars by Ross of London in its original wooden case took £3000 – 10 times the lower estimate – and a pair of Carl Zeiss Kriegsmarine binoculars estimated at £400-600 made £2300.
