Just 12 of these so-called Celtic ‘Gisleham Glory’ quarter staters are recorded.

The coin, which dates to around c.40-20 BC, features a globular horse and 16 ‘hidden faces’ – a motif lifted from the coins made under Tasciovanos, a king of the Catuvellauni tribe who ruled before the Roman conquest of Britain.

The coin was found in 2009 near Fakenham in Norfolk, and has an opening bid of £2800 in Chris Rudd’s Celtic coin online auction, which ends on January 14.
