A sale dedicated to the ceramics of Clarice Cliff (1899-1972) kicks off the new year at Chiswick Auctions in London on January 16.

The 140-lot group has been assembled by a private collector and features an array of bowls, teapots, vases and more, starting from £100.

This 8in (20cm) high vase pictured above, in the Summerhouse pattern, numbered 451 from Cliff’s famous Bizarre range, is estimated at £300-500.

A 1in (3.1cm) wide brooch depicting the mythical hero Hercules, seated holding his club, will go under the hammer at Dreweatts in Donnington Priory, Newbury, on January 10.

It is catalogued as a c.1840 shell cameo and square cut garnet brooch, and carries an estimate of £120-160.
