They are inspired by the legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, first recorded in the 14th century, which starts with a grand New Year’s feast at King Arthur’s court.

In his works, Hicks-Jenkins incorporates scenes and figures from the story and, for the second time, will exhibit some of these at Martin Tinney Gallery in Cardiff from January 10-27.

Featuring numbers 7-14 in the series, the show includes preparatory studies and paintings as well as the prints themselves. The work was completed in collaboration with Daniel Bugg of Penfold Press, which has produced and published the editions of prints.

Among the works on offer is The Three Hunts, above, a screen-print from an edition of 75, which is available for £295 (unframed).
