Wilkes – the author of Islamic Coins and Their Values – worked with Baldwin’s from 1998- 2008 when he left to become an independent dealer specialising in Islamic, Indian and medieval coins.

From 2014-17 he was a partner in online numismatic auction company Wilkes & Curtis, before becoming an independent dealer and consultant once again.

Christopher Webb, head of the DNW coins department, said: “We are delighted to welcome Tim Wilkes, whose expertise will reinforce the coin department and help the company build for the future after a highly successful 2017.”

Wilkes will work for DNW across all areas of numismatics. Webb added: “Although we have no immediate plans to hold stand-alone Islamic sales, we would certainly consider doing so should the right opportunity present itself.”

Over his 10-year career with Baldwin’s he was responsible for cataloguing a number of notable collections, including the WC Boyd Collection of English coins, the Michael Sarnefors Collection of Indian coins, and the Alistair Lilburn Collection of Crusader coins.
