This “historically important” French sabre attributed to ‘General Brooks’ and presented by Lafayette (1757-1834), the French hero of the War of Independence, is estimated at $20,000-40,000. David Brooks (1756-1838) was an officer in the Continental Army.

This elaborately detailed piece was probably made at Klingenthal and is possibly a LePage, says Morphy. The museum-quality sword is complete with a letter detailing its provenance and history from William Dykes Antiques.
