This Dutch 18th century bombé bureau cabinet sold for £10,500 at Andrew Smith.
Offered at the Itchen Stoke, Hampshire, rooms on February 6, one of the mirrored doors was cracked, the fall had a badly damaged corner and the fitted interior was thought to be later.
Nevertheless, it was a very good example of its type, decorative and with good colour and came fresh to market, hence the £3000- 4000 estimate.
This turned out to be very conservative when the bureau sold to ‘the overseas trade’ at £10,500.
