Some time ago Alan Sturrock made the same plea in the ATG regarding sticky labels on Staffordshire figures, but this practice still remains.

I recently bought a rare Staffordshire figure with two sticky labels, one on top of the figure’s head. We all know that Staffordshire figures are prone to flaking and gilding loss, so sticky labels don’t help.

Collectors and dealers cringe with horror when they see sticky labels on furniture, boxes, leather and gilded frames etc. Auction houses have a duty to preserve our precious antiques not damage them.
