The 5½ x 9½in (14 x 24cm) micromosiaic, which is set into slate with a lapis lazuli-banded border, is housed in what the auctioneers think is probably the original gold gesso frame measuring 14½ x 16½in (37 x 42cm). The estimate is $4000-5000.
The two-day multi discipline sale, numbering around 1100 lots, includes a large selection of jewellery, Asian ceramics and works of art, paintings and items of American and European interest.
