The format worked so well that Cartwright and his wife Lynn launched a second racecourse fair at Nottingham Racecourse in February last year.
Their flagship fair is the annual three-day Antiques in the Park, held in marquees and outside in the splendid surroundings of the 820-acre Kedleston Hall, near Derby, former seat of the Curzon family and now owned by the National Trust.
All these events are at the mercy of the elements and, as Cartwright puts it, “the vagaries of the weatherman”.
