With her husband and partner Joachim Mendes she established, in 1975, a business that grew in reach and importance over the years.

Her unerring eye for quality and dtail led her to take part, among others, in the supply of props to the film industry and the provision of exhibits to museums.

Betty and Jo moved the business online in the late 1990s and continued to be a regular feature at specialist auctions and fairs the length and breadth of the UK, until Betty’s failing health made her cease these activities.

Born in 1927, Betty moved to Paris at the end of the Second World War with a Foreign Office team to reopen the British Embassy. There she married and had four children.

Having met Jo Mendes in 1969, she moved to the UK in 1973.

Together they founded the specialist antique lace business in 1975 that continues to flourish to this day, with customers all over the world.

Betty will be sorely missed by her family, her friends and all those who knew her. With her passing, an important page in the lives of all she has touched has been turned.
