Hugo Marsh, director at SAS, said: “These telephoto lenses were only made in small numbers in this finish in 1941-42 for German Army Leicas. On close examination, we were pleased to see the corroboration of the last three digits of the serial number pencilled in script inside the lens barrel.
“The lens was in good condition for an instrument that had seen military service and it certainly proved to be a very fruitful purchase for the observant vendor.”
Marsh, who held his first SAS sale in 2009, added: “Special usage cameras are very popular, especially those used in the military.”
