Made by Johannes van de Toorn, the founder of the prolific dynasty of silversmiths working in The Hague, the 3in (11.5cm) tall, 4.5oz caddy was marked B. 1724.

Given a £3000-5000 estimate at the Shropshire sale on March 21, it sold over the phone to a Dutch buyer at £7400.
