The scene by the Qing artist, Xu Naigu (1785-1835), is accompanied by colophons and dedications by more than 60 artists, scholars and literati figures dated from 1821 until 1948.

The name and seal of the Zhejiang painter, calligrapher and collector Gao Shixian (1878-1952) appears on the title slip. The painting was acquired by the father of the present owner in Shanghai in 1948. She later received it as a wedding gift in 1974 in Hong Kong.
