This Victorian silver-gilt claret jug is estimated at £400-600 in Humbert & Ellis’s sale on October 5 in Whittlebury, Northampton.

It stands 14in (35cm) high and is decorated with a central band of lions, masks and grape vines. A curled serpent forms the lid. It was made by Stephen Smith & William Nicholson of Duke Street and is hallmarked for London, 1861.

South Yorkshire auction house Wilkinson’s will include this large Oceanic club in its sale on October 1 in Doncaster.

The 2ft 10in (86 cm) long weapon possibly comes from Vanuatu, home to the Melanesian people, known as the Ni-Vanuatu. This chain of 83 islands in the south-west Pacific Ocean, formerly the New Hebrides, gained independence from Britain and France in 1980.

Estimate £600-800.

This 14ct gold cigarette case was given to the Austrian- American composer Frederick Loewe by MGM movie mogul Arthur Freed.

The box is engraved on the front with the initials FL and is inscribed to the inside with: To Fritz with acclamation and thanks Arthur Freed, Xmas 1957.

It was likely given to thank Loewe for his work writing the music for the movie Gigi starring Leslie Caron and Maurice Chevalier, which was released to critical acclaim in 1958.

The vendor inherited the case from his uncle, who was a close friend of Loewe’s. It will be offered on September 28 at Hansons in Etwall, Derbyshire, estimated at £1500-2000.

One of the older lots included in Ewbank’s Entertainment & Memorabilia sale in Surrey on October 5 is this programme for a 1927 premiere of Metropolis. The premiere of the epic German science-fiction film was held at the Marble Arch Pavilion in London on March 21.

Original posters promoting the film are among the most sought-after on the market, with this 7 x 9in (18 x 23cm) British souvenir programme estimated at £800-1200.
