The saleroom, which began trading at the start of the year, is run by Aubrey Dawson. Former Wotton Auction Rooms auctioneer Joe Trinder has also joined.

It will hold its first Modern & Contemporary Design auction on December 2.

Hill said: “I love the constant variety and excitement of the saleroom and I am thrilled to be returning to the auction world with Aubrey and his team.”

He joins as a consultant and will continue to work as a dealer in specialist post-war Czech glass, showing at two fairs a year.

“I understand the argument that dealers and auctioneers should be separate. But in today’s world we shouldn’t categorise people,” Hill said.

“As long as you are careful of avoiding conflicts of interest, then why shouldn’t I use my knowledge and expertise in many ways? My dealing is in a very niche area of post-war Czech glass and is unlikely to lead to conflicts.”

Dawson’s has also hired Michael Elston, who will run two specialist rare books sales a year. For more on this see Around the Auction Houses in this issue.
