But the show, held for the past three years at Fawley Hill, near Henley-on-Thames, will go on thanks to the owners, Sir William and Lady McAlpine, with Lady McAlpine, an experienced events organiser, running the fair.
Talking to ATG, Judy McAlpine, a regular visitor to the Salvo fair with her husband, said: “Thornton has decided to take a year off from organising Salvo but we feel it has gathered momentum at Fawley Hill so we plan to go ahead with it.
“I have asked experienced dealers Gary Wallis and Alix Charpentier to help liaise with the trade. We are all fired up and very excited about running Salvo 2018.”
Salvo 2018 will run from Friday to Sunday, June 1-3, next year. This is a change from the usual end-of-June dates for the annual architectural salvage fair, which has been held since 1997 at various locations across the south of England.
Kay said: “The focus for Salvo in 2018 will be on our core business, the online marketplace and directory for salvage and antiques, and there will be a new website.
“The Salvo fair too has been acknowledged by many as the best in its field for unique salvage, antique and reclaimed materials.
“With time currently limited, and to ensure the high standards expected of a Salvo fair, we’re taking a year off but expect to be back bigger and better in 2019.”
