This dealer in French items runs a firm located in two old buildings on an old RAF base out on the Romney Marshes on the East Sussex/Kent border – premises once described on a blogspot as “straight out of a Scandi-noir set”.

Higham loves France and has personally been based in the Pays de la Loire region for 20 years. He has built an impressive list of contacts across the country where he sources for clients, particularly some local pubs, offering items such as huge wooden shutters, advertising signs, mirrors, bicycles, toy cars, leather chairs, statues, textiles and loads of galvanised items.

The seriously worn-out look is essential for some of his customers, said Higham. “I have clients who say to me they need extra rips on the leather chairs and that the antique and vintage mirrors which are marked and scuffed are not worn enough.”

His other passion is motor racing. Every year he takes a team to Le Mans, entering the Classic race with a 1975 Scimitar GT.

The slightly eccentric and well priced Hoof Brocante is at Brookland on the East Sussex/Kent border on the A259 coming from Rye, and is open at weekends.

Higham is on Facebook and can be reached on 07722 217397 and on email at hoof4u@live.fr
